Daydreaming in Italian
Feb 8th 2025
We spent last Christmas in Rome. We wanted to see Italy in winter, when everything is kind of dormant and quiet and asleep. I like to travel in the winter, its like walking down the back alley instead of the front street, where everything is about meticulously presenting your best self. You see how people really live. We were mostly staying in Abruzzo before and after, which was a whole new area to me. Vistas of layered hills with medieval towns stuck to their crests, oak trees , wild boar, truffles, smoke hanging low in the shorn fields, tilled earth, empty beaches alluding to the swell of summer, cioccolata calda, tumultuous skies and local christmas concerts. Most things were closed but that was alright.
